ProWein Düsseldorf 2026 Unveils Strategic Overhaul to Boost Global Trade Fair Leadership

Organizers introduce new formats, digital matchmaking, and streamlined hall layout to enhance business opportunities for wine and spirits professionals

ProWein Düsseldorf 2026 has confirmed a strategic reorientation, aiming to strengthen its position as a leading international trade fair for wine and spirits. The event took place from March 15 to 17, 2026, bringing together 3,400 exhibitors from 63 countries. Over the three days, 31,000 trade visitors from 105 nations attended the fair, using it as a platform for business and distribution decisions. The organizers placed special emphasis on attracting buyers from key import markets such as Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and the United States.

This year’s edition introduced several changes designed to sharpen ProWein’s business focus. A revised hall concept aimed to make navigation more efficient for both exhibitors and visitors. The Hosted Buyer program was updated and received positive feedback, helping to facilitate targeted meetings between buyers and sellers. The ProWein App, featuring the Fair Match matchmaking tool, played a significant role in connecting participants. Organizers reported that 72,488 business contacts were initiated through the app before and during the event.

On the final day of the fair, a local public transport strike threatened to disrupt travel for attendees. In response, Messe Düsseldorf organized a shuttle service with 30 coaches to transport visitors and exhibitors between the fairgrounds, airport, and central train station. This ensured that participants could reach their destinations without major delays.

Marius Berlemann, Chief Operating Officer at Messe Düsseldorf, stated that the organization is committed to continuously developing ProWein’s relevance for industry professionals and decision-makers. He highlighted the appointment of Frank Schindler as director in October 2025 as an important step in driving this development forward.

Several new formats were introduced at ProWein 2026. ProWein Agora served as a central stage for market analysis and strategic discussions. Sparkling Visions provided a dedicated space for international sparkling wines and attracted strong interest. The ProWein Zero Tasting Zone offered an overview of the growing no- and low-alcohol category. The ProSpirits area expanded significantly this year, with 500 exhibitors from 50 countries presenting a wide range of international spirits across two halls.

The event also reached beyond the trade fair grounds with ProWein City Vibes. This format connected exhibitors with local food service providers and consumers through 64 curated events across Düsseldorf. These activities aimed to engage both industry professionals and food and drink enthusiasts in the city.

Feedback from exhibitors and visitors indicated that the new hall layout with clearer segments and shorter distances was well received. However, suggestions were made for further improvements, particularly regarding connections between New World producers and Spain in Hall 6. Organizers plan to address these points as part of an ongoing multi-year development process.

The next edition of ProWein Düsseldorf is scheduled for March 7 to 9, 2027. In addition to the main event in Germany, satellite fairs are planned in Tokyo and Singapore in April. Organizers will present further details about future developments at a press talk later in May.
