Anheuser-Busch said on Wednesday that it will invest $5.8 million in its brewery in Williamsburg, Va., in a move the company said will support production of Michelob Ultra and fund a new technical skills training center for employees.
The announcement is part of a broader $600 million commitment the brewer has made to its U.S. operations in 2025 and 2026. The company said the Williamsburg project is intended to strengthen manufacturing capacity, expand workforce training and support jobs in Virginia, where it has operated for more than 50 years.
Brendan Whitworth, chief executive of Anheuser-Busch, said in a statement that the investment would help the company continue producing what he called high-quality American beers while supporting economic growth in the communities where it operates. He also said the company was reaffirming its commitment to American manufacturing and to veterans.
The Williamsburg brewery, which opened in 1972, is one of Anheuser-Busch’s key production sites. Tom Jokerst, the brewery’s general manager, said the new spending reflects the company’s dedication to brewing and to local economic development.
The technical skills training center planned for Williamsburg is one of 15 such centers Anheuser-Busch is opening nationwide, according to the company. It said the centers are meant to train workers in technical fundamentals, digital tools, management systems and mechanical and electrical systems. Anheuser-Busch said it plans to upskill more than 90% of its manufacturing work force over the next five years.
The company also said it is continuing to work with the Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America program to help former and current service members move into manufacturing jobs. Nearly 20% of Anheuser-Busch’s Williamsburg work force are veterans or active service members, the company said.
Anheuser-Busch said it has invested nearly $50 million in the Williamsburg brewery over the past five years. It also said the site will host a public event on May 30 to mark Budweiser’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th birthday, with beer service, local food vendors, lawn games and an appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales.
